Waiting For the Lab Results?

Throughout our life we will often be held in waiting, a state filled with a range of feelings from joyful anticipation to worry and dread. Consider this lab pup waiting patiently at the window, not in the least bit ready to “throw in the towel.” He is certain that his patience will be rewarded with a treat or two from the reception desk, as long as his legs can hold out. While this state of anticipation can challenge our patience and faith in daily life, we have a choice. We can either be tossed by the emotional tides of our circumstances or stand as an immovable force, anchored by our faith in Christ.

Philippians 4: 6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Conditioning Through Training: Are You In Shape For Life?

Faith mirrors physical conditioning. Repetition drives growth and strength. In the gym, this process breaks down muscle fibers, which the body rebuilds to be stronger and more defined. The workout rarely feels good, but the disciplined athlete perseveres (with the right attitude) through discomfort, recognizing it as the site of true growth. Faith demands the same persistence—standing firmly on conviction through thick and thin or simply put, in the good times and in the bad. The experience isn’t always pleasant when trials arise or difficult seasons drag on. Real faith stands boldly, trusting that the results, like the athlete’s high level of conditioning, are attainable, but only through consistent effort and never giving up. Expecting spiritual strength without dedicating time to God is as futile as an athlete desiring to be fully prepared but without putting in the training, or one who trains but sabotages their efforts with a bad diet, zero discipline or poor attitude. The outcome will match the input!

James 1:2-4: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

The Battle For Your Attention. What Gets Yours?

In the popular Disney/Pixar movie Up, the lovable dog Dug wears a special collar that translates his thoughts into human speech; a running gag throughout the film, echoed by those who can relate, is his easy distractibility, often mid-sentence, prompting his famous exclamation: “Squirrel!”

The extensive influence of social media in modern society bears an undeniable correlation to what might be called the “squirrel” mentality—a profound and increasing distractibility. We may be engaged in a focused task or physically present in a room conducive to genuine interpersonal communication when, suddenly, the electronic equivalent of a scattered thought intervenes: a notification, “snap,” or an alert. This phenomenon extends beyond any one specific app or cell phone brand; it encompasses a myriad of platforms and the simple, compulsive urge to continuously glance at our devices for new messages, in essence disrupting our sustained attention and presence—- and if by chance we want to break the cycle, there are friends and family that might get upset if we don’t respond and/or engage in a timely fashion….so the cycle continues. What gets your attention?

Where The Lesser Value Means More; Pareto Principle Redefined

You may have heard the phrase, “What you put in is what you will get out,” which essentially means the quality of the output is directly proportional to the quality of the input. There is also another principle that most people wouldn’t recognize when defined by the principle’s founder Vilfredo Pareto in 1896, but its meaning becomes clearer when it is defined simply as a rule. When applying this particular rule, it is better to be represented by the lower percentage value, even though experience suggests that the lower value might be inflated by roughly 10%. The rule that I am referencing is the 80/20 rule, which states, 80% of your results are produced by 20% of your efforts or in other words the vast majority of outcomes (80%) stem from a minority of inputs (20%). When correlated to manpower it can be stated that 80% of productivity correlates to the efforts of 20% of your workforce, which is an unequal distribution. This doesn’t mean that 80% of the workforce isn’t contributing but more-so the contribution of the 20% carries the weight. While the Pareto Principle suggests that 20% of a group drives 80% of its results, modern shifts in work ethic—particularly evident in the current generation—suggest an even sharper divide. We may be approaching a reality where 10% of an organization’s workforce shoulders the weight for the remaining 90%. It’s a compelling thought but the reality is that we all have a choice. Do we want to be part of the least that gives the most or part of the most that gives the least?

America’s Heart Issue

Driven by a persistent need for hope, acceptance, and fulfillment, this generation of youth have found that their individual pursuits, which are encouraged by society, have left them empty and unfulfilled, only to seek the next “best” thing which keeps them in a cycle of false and temporal fulfillment.

The Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance has held the title of the most powerful production AMG with a combined 831 horsepower, derived from its Formula-1 technology. At rest, the AMG’s powerful stance, clean lines and intricate workmanship make it a thing of automotive beauty, but upon acceleration the heart of the beast comes alive with 0-60 mph in 2.8-2.9 seconds. For car enthusiasts there is a great appreciation for the look and corresponding performance of a car like that of the AMG but without that powerful driving force under the hood it is nothing more than idle eye candy.

Society attempts to place so much significance on appearances, which to some degree are important but are not what defines you. Like the horsepower found under the hood of the AMG, the heart is the driving factor that defines us. It’s the force behind all that we do and the basis for much of what we are facing in this world today. This nation has a heart issue and to fix the heart will fix this generation. Some say that perception is reality, unfortunately the reality seems to support the perception that hope, acceptance and fulfillment are found in anything other than Christ Jesus, but the real hope comes through a restored heart, which can only be found in Him.

Beyond the Trending Buzzwords: Redefining Action & The Corresponding Works

Pablo Picasso stated, “Action is the foundational key to all success.” But where in this current generation is action, when in essence we are more in clear terms “trend followers” than we are charting our own course. Picasso believed that ideas, without execution (which is lack of action) are worthless— similar to that of Christian Faith where faith alone without works through corresponding action- is dead. James 2:17.

Action, as defined, is the accomplishment of a thing over time, in stages, or with the possibility of repetition; for Gen Alpha & Z, however, the concept of ‘action’ has become as fluid and undefined as the viral phrase ‘six-seven’ repeated. There was a time when true accomplishment meant applying effort and corresponding work to forge something new, rather than simply riding the coattails of what was trending. Thinking and reasoning were not a popularity contest, but a process of using individual perspective, unique ideas, knowledge, and wisdom to achieve meaningful results. When did work ethic take a back seat to click rate, #trending, #iykyk and vibe checks. Where my once proper ‘rizz’ vocabulary used to be ‘fire’ but is totally ‘cooked’, by these ‘suss’ and unclear terms—it’s ‘low’ key ‘drippin’ into total confusion, ‘bruh’.

Instead of following passing trends, let us put into action the timeless character of Christ beginning with some works that involve: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control.

James 2:18 states, “You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works”

Don’t Be Puzzled…Designed With Purpose

Invented around 1760 by a London mapmaker, the jigsaw puzzle initially served an educational purpose. The inventor glued maps onto wooden backers and cut them along country lines with a jigsaw, creating “dissected map” puzzles. Initially an expensive pastime reserved for the wealthy, their popularity skyrocketed during the 1930s.

Today, jigsaw puzzles evoke varied reactions: some find them a challenging and rewarding activity, while others actively avoid the task. Enthusiasts develop their skill, patience, and ability over time, often starting with simpler 500-piece puzzles before graduating to intricate puzzles with thousands of pieces to achieve that same sense of accomplishment. Essentially, as one’s ability grows, so does their skill in handling greater challenges incorporating multiple angles, colors, dimensions, and perspectives.

Let’s momentarily shift focus from the final product to contemplate the puzzle creator. We’re not talking about those mass-produced, bargain-bin puzzles, but those meticulously crafted by a true artisan using a physical jigsaw. They all begin with one fundamental element: vision. The original creator had an idea and, through a deliberate, step-by-step process, brought that idea to life, resulting in puzzles with hundreds or even thousands of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Each piece is skillfully perfected to fit a single, specific spot, as conceptualized by the creator’s initial design. It might require turning, examining from different perspectives, or patience before its perfect placement becomes clear. Yet, ultimately, every single piece has its precise purpose and position, and the reward is a beautiful, fully completed picture.

Don’t be puzzled: you also have a creator, and you were designed uniquely, specifically, and with purpose.

Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well”

Mowing The Lawn; An Artwork or a Task?

For some, it is merely a chore, but for others, mowing the lawn is a work of art. Beautiful patterns of finely cut lines that even Claude Monet could appreciate and the world’s best greens-keepers would hope to model.

Those who master this skill know that it requires more than just practice. While practice is critical for success, true excellence also demands an unwavering desire for perfection and meticulous attention to detail.

This type of excellence also applies to your faith and walk with Christ. No this does not mean that you have arrived or for that matter will ever arrive to perfection– Not even close. It means that you bring your very best with the knowledge and skill that you have developed to this point and continue to develop over a lifetime. You can take-in all the word of God and prayer that you want but you also have to put that knowledge into action. If the mower only had knowledge and skill but lacked any standard for excellence then the skill was never brought to its fullest which would be evident in his work. Work hard, develop your faith and seek excellence in all that you do.

Billieve……Hope, Faith and a Guaranteed Victory

Nobody truly understands hope, faith & perseverance like that of a Buffalo Bills fan. Through decades of highs, lows, and stinging disappointments—most notably the four consecutive Super Bowl appearances that began with “wide right” and then there’s the Chiefs—yet the faithful “Bills Mafia” remains unwavering. They brave Western New York’s punishing winters, packing the open stadium with a collective belief that outlasts any storm and despite the season’s outcome their rally cries continue throughout the years, not built on blind optimism or any guarantees but a united declaration of an unshakeable faith that our victory is ahead.

Imagine a guaranteed victory, secured not by temporary means but by an eternal hope where fleeting chances, wide rights and 13 seconds wouldn’t matter. Just a few sincere words from a believing heart and the victory is yours. In the words of Damar Hamlin at the NFL Honors, “God’s plan was to have a greater purpose than any game in this world.” That purpose is there for anyone who is willing to grab ahold of it and it all begins with hope and faith in God.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Koenigsegg…..How Do You Say That????

It’s not an easy name to pronounce accurately especially if you don’t know the origin or history but regardless of your knowledge, the fact still stands that a Koenigsegg or Koenigsegg Automotive is a Swedish manufacturer of high performance super cars (mega cars); derived from a 22 year-old visionary named Christian Von Koenigsegg in 1994 with the goal of building the greatest super sports cars the world has ever seen. With roughly 255 Koenigsegg’s worldwide at a price between 1.7 and 2.8 million the likelihood of coming across one of these unparalleled carbon fiber masterpieces is slim but regardless the fact remains…..they exist….and they stand by their philosophy of no compromise.

This hand-crafted rarity of a driving machine is a great parallel for a world that tends to deny the existence of God or lacks the knowledge of the masterpiece that He created in each one of us and the saving grace that comes only through Jesus. This grace unlike that of an elusive super car is not a rarity but available to all who seek Him. One day we will all stand before Him to give an account and in that very moment will He know our name?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
